Meet the 2024 Candidates!
We’ve put together a list of candidates running this year with links to their websites. Take time to look into them so you have a good idea of what they are about and what they plan to do for Montana.
Local Government Review
Montana is Unique for many reasons including a unique opportunity to decide what type of local government the citizens desire to be governed under.
Article XI, Section 9 of the 1972 Constitution initiated and mandated the local government review process. The process is defined under MCA 7-3-171 through 7-3-193. This process, required every 10 years, involves a local government review election where voters decide whether they want to review their local government.
In this process, voters in each incorporated city/town and county determine if they wish to assess the structure and authority of their local government. If voters give their consent for a review, an elected “study commission” is tasked with examining the current local government structure and comparing it to other forms available under state law. There are 6 types available under state law. There is an opportunity to combine the city and county governments if the residents so choose.
Miles City and Custer County resolutions 4548 and 2024-23 respectively call for this Ballot initiative which will be on the primary election ballot on June 4, 2024.
FREEDOMS ENHANCED
This is a short list of liberties that were strengthened for the people of Montana during the 2023 Montana Legislative session. All of these laws were voted on and passed by the Republican Legislators in the Montana House and Senate and signed by our Republican Governor.
